POSITION TITLE:  Dental Director

POSITION SUMMARY:  The Senior Director of Dental Services provides direct patient care (50%) and works to supervise/evaluate dental provide r staff. They are responsible for advising the Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) and Operations team regarding the overall program and overseeing departmental initiatives, including development and supervision of quality assurance, utilization, and peer review processes.  

REPORTS TO:  Chief Clinical Officer (CCO)

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES:  Staff Dentists, Hygienists, and Dental Clinical Manager[Av1] [SS2]

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.  Ensures and provides quality dental care in all venues through which health center personnel provide dental care.   

2.  Assumes responsibility for the clinical competency and professional conduct and practices of all dental department providers (Dentists and Dental Hygienists). Standard performance oversight of these providers is accomplished through annual performance appraisals, 90-day reviews, support and recognition for high quality performance, as well as disciplinary action and corrective action plans for poor performance. 

3.  Mentorship practices for skill development and support for new providers and/or recent graduates. 

4.  Management of PTO requests to ensure adequate clinic coverage and approval of payroll through the ADP system.  

5.  Develops and enforces dental department policies with the support of the Chief Clinical Officer and in collaboration with Operations and Compliance team members.

6.  Provides guidance to the Dental Clinical Manager]  around dental operations, processes, and standard operating procedures. 

7.  Plans and leads dental department meetings 

8.  Provides guidance to the Dental Clinical Manager to help inform the departmental Quality Improvement Program and recommend revisions where necessary.

9.  Responsible for the quarterly dental providers meeting to discuss peer review and complex cases as part of the Quality and Risk Management program.

10.  Participate in the development of integrated models between primary care, behavioral health, and partner organizations.

11.  Partner with Dental Clinical Manager to maintain over-site of department financials and communicate with dental providers on productivity goals. 

12.  Responsible for productivity goals and financial targets for the department budget and maintains accountability for the departments’ financial sustainability. Implement and adhere to the policies of the organization, as well as those of funding sources and third party payers.

13.  Direct the hiring of clinical dental department staff in coordination with the Human Resources department and the Dental Clinical Manager

14.  Co Sign license applications for Limited License Dentists (LLD) as needed.

15.  Other related duties as assigned by the Chief Clinical Officer.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education:  DMD, DDS, or equivalent. Must be a Massachusetts fully licensed dentist.

Experience: Five years of post-license practice experience strongly preferred. Supervisory and/or managerial experience or equivalent education/certification in management preferred


Skills: Working knowledge of rural services and needs, ability to work with a diverse population and sensitivity to low-income populations.


Must be competent with diagnostic procedures for dental, periodontal, and oral pathology conditions, restorative dentistry, removable prosthodontics, crown and bridge, simple extractions, and all-ages family dentistry. 

Able to manage patients with complex medical histories and dental trauma

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

 

While performing the required duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent when traveling between Health Center locations where medical care is provided.  This position performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
