  • Expose new FQHC Dental Directors to the concept and application of effective leadership

Health Center Fundamentals

  • Discuss the characteristics of Health Center patient populations

  • Recognize common terms used to reference Health Center oral health programs

  • Describe how Health Centers are financed

  • List Health Center partners

Workforce & Staffing

  • Understand statistics and issues around the current HC workforce to inform recruitment methods and strategies

  • Develop an effective hiring process

  • Foster a positive work environment to maximize retention

  • Develop ideal staffing and equipment ratios for your program

  • Understand how students, hygienists and new dental team members might be effectively utilized

Quality

  • Understand the importance of quality

  • Distinguish between quality assurance (QA) and quality improvement (QI) systems

  • Develop quality plans and measures for a dental program that will drive progress towards population health status goals

  • Explore the role of leadership and quality

Risk Management

  • Understand what risk management is and the role of a Dental Director

  • Identify the risk areas in a Health Center dental program

  • Learn the advantages and disadvantages of the available risk assessment tools

  • Understand how to set up a good risk management process

Financials

  • Develop a financial strategy

  • Become familiar with common Health Center financial terms

  • Understand basic Health Center financial tools

  • Locate and utilize helpful resources

Patient Centered Health Home

  • Describe medical-dental integration activities in early adopter Health Centers

  • Understand the characteristics of Health Centers that have achieved high levels of medical-dental integration

  • Develop strategies to overcome integration barriers

  • Apply best practices from early adopters
